17 YEARS TO THE GLORY OF GOD

Yes, exactly seventeen years ago today, in a hot afternoon, I stepped into the city of Sokoto. As my foot touched the ground, a voice spoke on my inside, you have come to suffer and waste away. And I quickly replied, according to the word of the Lord, wherever the sole of my foot thread upon, that I take for a possession. It’s been 17 years of great adventures (good, bad, ugly, threatening, victorious, disastrous, great experiences etc.). However, in all, the faithfulness of God cannot be denied.

That day, I came with a box and a bag filled with books, some clothes and less than thirty thousand naira with me, home and abroad as the saying goes. It was like starting life all over again not knowing when I will see anyone again. Remember at that time, no GSM, email etc.

When I arrived, I squatted with some Corpers, made benches, a pulpit, opened a savings account with First Bank and opened a postal box, then made payment for the first month of service (which eventually did not hold because there was no member, couldn’t really take off till June). Then the money finished, brethren, fellowship of his suffering and fellowship with suffering began oh.

I still remember one of those days, I told God if 1, two or three of these seven people (I gave Him names, interestingly, they were all LOCCAFITES) would call or write me now to say COURAGE, you took a wrong step, I would retrace my steps. No one called or wrote. The story long let me put down a few highlights that I can recollect now.

MY FIRST OFFERING
Very interestingly, it came from my wife not even my fiancĂ©e then, though, I had proposed. To keep track with my proposal, I had to be writing letters, it got so bad that Iran out of writing sheets, I had no one to ask. I had to get some from the waste bin to finish up my writing. I was taught how to trek honourably on streets by some professional trekkers I met. I became a member of the free newspapers readers association because that was the only way to keep track with the outside world. One of those days, I trekked to the post office just to see if I had any letter, lo and behold, I got a letter from my wife, loaded epistle with a fine writing and twenty naira (N20) inside (mint). Brethren, I sat for a while tired with a heart of gratitude. For me, that was a green light that there is hope for me from God and her then the purpose why I was here.

BANK EXPERIENCE
I had a car in Benin I wanted to sell before coming but never could. My dad promised to do it on my behalf and remit the money. Trekking every other day to the bank became part of my work to see if it would come. It never came and the car actually rotted away there. God wanted to do it His own way. However, two main experiences in the bank, one with the branch accountant. I was hungry that I went to him and said I wanted to withdraw below the minimum of five hundred naira (N500) then. I went up charged up in my spirit, he looked at me, approved my withdrawing three hundred (N300) and said, please don’t come for such a request again. And I said ok. To the glory of God, it has been so. The second has to do with when one of the staff said my constant coming to check, he called me and asked for my address and said when
this money comes, I will let you know.

CHURCH GROWTH – With all the word of faith and church growth messages I knew, I didn’t see any reason why the church shouldn’t explode after one or two messages. I remember telling folks in Benin then that any pastor that can’t have at least a hundred people after one year is lazy or not called. Brethren, all these theology slapped me in the face. I put all the principles to work, exercised all the faith, in conclusion, I came to the end of myself. I had to go on another retreat, seeking God for a definite detail for this task in this place. Days into weeks, praying, meditating, and studying. In the process, two things happened:

ONE: The Lord told me any unbeliever that’s your crusade ground and any believer you meet that’s your teaching centre. After that, the first unbelievers I would meet, I preached to them till one of them gave his life to Christ and later became a member of our church, five or more years after, while the other abused me and left. The believer I would meet happened to be a pastor; we shared for hours non-stop till I was exhausted and hungry. We grew to become very good friends. He is happily married now and based in Australia with his family. Will tell you more about him another time.

TWO: It was while praying that God showed me two faces, a male and a female. He told me those were my members. I went to the male that night, spoke to him and gave him two weeks to come join me. After three days, he came over. He became the first and only member of the church for one month. While the lady eventually became a member months after. In the seventeen years, these two are the only ones I personally have been privileged to invite to church.

LOCCAF – In the course of my waiting on God, one of the instructions I got was not to travel out till after one year. I came in February, the ministry/church took off in June. Since I didn’t know which one He meant, I had to make sure that both marked one year before stepping out of Sokoto for any reason. Of course, I knew the Lord wanted me to stay, concentrate, give the work attention especially considering the hard, hostile nature of it. It needed some serious, consistent, spirit filled word pressure. Moreover, even if I had wanted to travel, that was not even possible because there was no means to. But one thing was certain, I was determined to keep the fellowship bond of my company (LCC/LOCCAF), I also knew one way to stay up and fresh here was to create the avenues to go refire. So I began to attend LOCCAF, and the common question everyone would ask me where’s sis. Bibi, the family? Hearing the question and trying to answer was painful but inspiring. My pain, you are seeing me, it’s a miracle, you don’t even know how I will go back, inspiring in the sense that my faith was rising. One day, you wouldn’t need to ask, you will see. At this junction, I will speak to two sets of people.

The First
Don’t just ask, find out why and see how you can make it happen.

The Second
Their asking shouldn’t embarrass or make you withdraw rather, it shows you are important and they care.  One interesting experience I will never forget, that was before Rasheed relocated abroad. He came for one Loccaf and he and Pastor Bankie were talking about a camera which belonged to one of them. I was completely lost and it occurred to me that realistically, I must have owned a camera before any of them but right now, I didn’t know anything about the camera. I told myself the more I should keep coming to stay current and keep track. And it occurred to me some others would have stopped coming. For me, the scripture that says iron sharpeneth iron, a company with the wise makes you wise is what coming to LOCCAF against all odds have been for me. To the glory of God now, Loccaf is a fixed yearly programme in my ministry and family programme. We plan and look forward to it yearly. Don’t wait till you are somebody to come, rather coming is part of the process to becoming somebody.  The old, young, contemporaries all used of God to bless, inspire you in diverse ways.

I STOLE – How can I forget that I deliberately went out of my way to steal one day? What did I steal and why? I stolea cloth from a passing out Corper. They were the ones I was squatting with for that whole period. They never bothered about my welfare. They just moved on though they were Christians and I was suffering. So it was time for them to pass out and they decided to clear all their properties to travel with, knowing full well that I had nothing to my name. In Sokoto, all weather is extremes and this time, it was extremely cold. Sleeping without a cover was unimaginable. So when they had packed up everything, they went to arrange their transport, I opened their bag and stole a wrapper so that I would not die of cold and since their heart had become cold too, I knew they will never need the wrapper nor will ever know it was stolen. Selfish brethren – anyway, I STOLE.

Time will fail me to tell of the deliverance from sickness, accidents, and threats. In all, where are we? God has been faithful in these seventeen years. Blessed with a wife and four children. Blessed with members. Been an active leader in the land and region. My case has become though poor making many rich (spiritually, physically etc).  In the same land, I have been honoured by God spiritually, physically etc.

Brethren, please join me to thank God. Indeed He has been faithful. I don’t want to commit the sin of omission or water down anyone’s blessing and reward from God, that’s why I don’t want to call names. But these seventeen years have not been me, I am sharing this with the house because you’ve been a part of it and it’s your testimony. Thank you for all of your support one way or another, known and unknown.  Gabriel, your call for write ups helped pull this out of me against all odds and it’s dawned on me that the book titled MY STORY – MY SONG that I always joked with my wife about, is long overdue. Let’s call all these extracts from the book and pray it will be a blessing.

THE NIGERIA PRAYER PROJECT

The Nigeria Prayer Project held in Sentosa Park, Apo Legislative Quarters Abuja from Sunday September 29 to Tuesday October 1 2013. Ministers and Christians from different denominations and from across the country was in attendance.  Pastor Courage Ode of Love Revival Ministries, Sokoto was the convener. The programme held between 5pm to 7pm on Sunday and Monday and between 10am and 12pm on Tuesday.

DAY1
Prayers started, with Pastor Courage leading congregants in thanksgiving prayers on behalf of the nation, expressing gratitude for divine providence in keeping the country together in spite of mounting adversities and threat to its existence as a nation.  This was followed by prayer of collective consecration and repentance for God’s healing intervention in Nigeria. Establishing that believers are supposed to be watchmen, positioned as intercessors on behalf of the nation, Pastor Courage, led the gathering into various intercessory prayers for the nation, which includes; the enforcement of peace over the nation; nullification of every contrary influence over the leadership of the nation, bringing all authorities under the influence of God.  Prayers were rounded off with prophetic declaration over everything that represents the entity called Nigeria.

DAY 2
Morning Session
Pastor Courage with Pastor Ugo Ndubeze of led a team of ministers on a Prayer walk round Apo legislative quarters. The exercise which took close to an hour was brought to end with a joint prayer session at Sentosa Park.
Evening Session
Prayers started with a declaration of light upon the darkness in the nation. According Pastor Courage, just like Paul wrestled with beasts in Ephesus, there are beasts in the land that must be wrestled down. On this note , prayers focussed on the dethronement of every  strange God and influence over Nigeria; dis-annulling   every covenant  of death and hell over the nation; overruling every curse and declaring that everyone wielding authority in the nation’s leadership  will become instrument of God’s will. The session was closed with prophetic declarations over Nigeria, its structures, systems and people, moderated by some ministers along with Pastor Courage.

DAY 3
Prayers started with the lifting up of ancient doors that have stood in the way of the nation’s progress. The gates to wealth, the souls of men and to the seat of power were declared open by the Spirit. Every gang up that delight in war, violence and confusion was scattered. Ministers joined voices with Pastor Courage to make the final prophetic declarations over the nation. Thereafter, Pastor Courage called out ministers who came from outside Abuja to be imparted with the spirit of the Nigeria Prayer Project. Pastor Courage prayed for them and said they were being released as spearheads to lead watchmen in their respective locations that will keep standing in the gap for the nation. He said the project was not ending with the Abuja programme, but that the momentum   has been ignited must be spread abroad.

LIFE LESSONS (1)
“For we all stumble in many things. If anyone does not stumble in word, he is a perfect man, able to bridle the whole body. Indeed, we put bits in horses’ mouth that they may obey us and turn their whole body.
Look also at ships, although they are so large and are driven by fierce winds, they are turned by every small rudder wherever the pilot desires.  Even so the tongue is a little member and boast great  things. See how great a forest a little fire kindles!
And the tongue is so set among our members that it defiles the whole body and sets on fire the course of nature, and it is set on fire by hell.
For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and creature of the sea, is tamed and has been tamed by mankind.
But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. With it we bless our God and father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the similitude of God.
Out of the same mouth proceeds blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so.
Does a spring send forth fresh water and bitter from the same opening? Can a fig tree, my brethren, bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Thus no spring yields both salt water and fresh”. (James 3:2-12)

If the verses you just read is from the Word of God, then if my lips would keep from slips of all sorts, there are seven things I ought to observe with care.

-To whom I speak
-Of whom I speak
-How I speak * When I speak
-Where I speak
-What I speak
-Why I speak.

This care begins in guarding carefully what passes the gates of your EARS and EYES to your HEART.
“My son, give attention to my words, incline your EAR to my SAYINGS. Do not let them depart from your EYES; keep them in the midst of your HEART. Keep your HEART with all diligence, for out of it springs the issue of life”. (Prov. 4:20-21,23).
“...For out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks”. (Matt. 12:34)

I WAS SPOILT
A dear man of God I have very high regards for, once made a statement in the course of our discussion that birth a revelation in me. I actually told him that I observed that he easily forgets dates, appointments, promises, etc. And his reply was, “MY SECRETARY SPOILT ME.” There was this particular godly woman he had for a Secretary at a time, who was very efficient in keeping diary and making sure that he meets up with the schedules. So, her near perfect efficiency resulted in a relaxation in that area for him. Now the Secretary is gone, it’s been pretty difficult to pick up.
So, I learnt that I could easily be spoilt by those around me. i.e children, subordinates, etc. I must delegate effectively and allow them complement my efforts but not to the point of becoming useless or ineffective when they are not around or gone. In the journey of life, you can’t avoid painful, needful partings. This is my humble wholehearted conclusion, no matter my status, age, etc, I refuse to be SPOILT because it’s easy to be SPOILT.
BOSS -                         The Secretary, driver, personal assistant should’t spoil me
MUMMY -                   The grown up children, especially the girls shouldn’t spoil me
MADAM -                   The maid shouldn’t spoil me
                                    On and on and on
SHALOM.

LIFE IS SO SHORT
I travelled home for the first time recently after the passing away unto glory of my dad. As I walked into the house, it dawned on me afresh that he was no more. I began to ask my self, so soon, so soon. When was it here that I used to run to him for school fees, frown over his rebukes, watch him instruct us, counsel, play host to high and low in the society and on and on. And I came to a simple conclusion, our LIFE SPAN IS SO SHORT. 70, 80 or more years is not as long as you think. Here is the lesson, I have only one opportunity to live and it’s so short, and as such I must make the most of it. No time to waste, fight, strive, sin etc. My kids are growing up fast. I presently have the opportunity of eating with them on the same table. I must make the most of it now because very soon they  will grow up and leave my home. I must preach with fervency now because very soon........
The journey of life is so short; please enjoy each day/phase as it comes by making it count for God. If it counts for God, it will count for you.

 LIFE LESSONS (4)
TIME
For a while now, I have been seriously troubled in my spirit and have not ceased to ask the question, WHAT EXACTLY DO WE HAVE TIME FOR?
Presently, it seems we have no time for anything meaningful or of eternal value.
NO TIME FOR;
·         GOD- Services in church have to be rushed and fast, even to read our bible and pray personally.
·         HOME- No time for husband, wife or children
·         DEVELOPMENT- Skills, work etc. But on the contrary, there seems to be more and more time for leisure, pleasure, quarrels, gossips, strife etc. No wonder presently, Comedians, Footballers and Entertainers seem to be making more money than any other set of people. Could this be responsible for the dwindling quality of lives? I strongly believe, yes. Well all of these are a confirmation of scriptures. “This know also, that in the last days...... For men shall be lovers of their own selves.........lovers of pleasures than lovers of God.” 2 Tim. 3:2,2,4.
We cannot over flog these issues. What you have time for is pointing to what you are living for. TIME IS LIFE
Key Lessons
·         You have TIME for nothing only for what you make TIME for
·         You only make TIME for what is important and relevant to you.
·         What you  don’t have TIME for is not because there is no time for it but because it’s not important enough to you.
·         The worth and quality of your LIFE is a product of what you give your TIME to.
·         A man/woman, who doesn’t have TIME for God personally and for the HOME LIFE, has unknowingly settled for failure and destruction.
·         In conclusion, let’s upgrade our worth; get out of the crowd by reordering our priority. Let’s give more time to God and to the things of eternal value than the mundane things.

LIFE LESSONS (5)

·         Do you know you need three basic things to survive? They actually go in order of importance which many times run contrary to our thinking and confessions. They are:
o   Air
o   Water
o   Food
·         We want the man of God but we do not want the God of the man of God. That is the simple difference between Lot and Ruth.
LOT could not follow ABRAHAM
RUTH  followed NAOMI
Consider their end.........

LIFE LESSONS (6)
 LOOKING BACK (1)
The extra push, effort here and there was worth it.
The extra push to maintain credibility. The extra push to study, pray and hold on to the Word. The extra push to maintain certain relationships when they were not pulling through just because I knew they were God ordained. The extra push to do what is right inspite of alternatives.
LOOKING BACK, I am glad I pushed my self extra mile.
I am glad at what the extra push is producing for me spiritually, socially, financially, emotionally, physically and mentally.
I am and will be willing to push myself by the grace of God some more for the extra touch, blessing, effect, etc.
Do you want to share of what I am experiencing? Then be willing to go an extra mile.
Its me, CEGO.
SHALOM.

LIFE LESSONS (7)
LOOKING BACK (2)
As a boy I had to ask this question over and over again “Can’t I live like every other boy, enjoy the freedom every other boy enjoys, play like every other boy”? The answer never came and no one was willing to give me the answer. Little did I know that even if someone was willing to give me an answer, I wasn’t ready to receive nor understand the answer. That only maturity and time will make me know.
Now I know and understand that for one who had this kind of assignment ahead, I just had to go through the kind of process that will fully equip me for it. And because I wasn’t going to end up being like every other person or just any body, So I couldn’t have grown up like every other person.
LOOKING BACK
·         I am glad I had those experiences
·         I am glad I went through the process
·         I am glad I wasn’t allowed to have my way
·         I am glad I was disciplined
·         I am glad limits were set for me
·         I am glad I was told to stay within boundaries
·         I am glad I was taught how to stay within boundaries
·         I am glad I was instructed, rebuked, corrected, counseled.
·         I am glad for all the authorities He set over me at different stages

Do you want to LOOK BACK and be glad (grateful to God)? Then allow HIM to take you through, yield to His process so that you can be properly sharpened for the glory ahead.
Its me, CEGO.
Shalom.

LIFE LESSONS (8)
LOOKING BACK (3)
The more I knew, the more I began to discover that I didn’t really know as much as I had always thought I knew.
The more I knew, the humbler and wiser I became.
Looking back, I am so glad I chose against being rigid or dogmatic about the things I held onto, but chose to be flexible in the hands of the Spirit.
I did not allow what I knew prevent me from what I didn’t know that I needed to know.
Beloved, do you want to advance? Then get better; I will like you to know that what you are yet to know is far more than what you already know.

Its me,

CEGO.

There is no doubt that
·       There is an intense battle for the soul of this nation.
·       There is an intense battle for the destiny of this nation
·       The vested interest of light and darkness in this nation is too obvious.
·       Prophecies are hanging over the nation that must be fulfilled.
·       A standard must be raised against the darkness in this nation.
·       We must be ahead and pave the way in the spirit, give clear direction for 2015 and beyond in NIGERIA, for NIGERIANS, the GOVERNMENT & CHURCH.

This is a call of heaven that cuts across denominational, doctrinal, environmental, ethical, status, schedule, gender and all known and unknown barriers to come together and enforce the counsel of God concerning the NATION in intense PRAYERS and SUPPLICATIONs.
It’s important to note that the prayers that will SAVE, DELIVER and ENFORCE the will of God over a nation, people or generation must be
1.  CORPORATE – Thy people (Psalm110:3), One place (ACTS 2:1)
2.  UNITED – One accord (Acts 2:1, Psalm 133:1-3)
3.  FERVENT – Extreme, hot, intense
4.  FOCUSED – Clear direction.
5.  CONSISTENT – Maintain momentum, tempo.
6.  CONTINUED – Without ceasing, stop, interruption
Further references – Joel2:15-18, 2Chronicle20, Acts1:14, 12:5-12, Isaiah 62:1, 6-7.
We trust the Lord that it will not just be a PRAYERTIME but much more the Lord will use this platform to recruit LABOURERS who will be envisioned and empowered to stand and keep watch upon the walls of this nation till Gods word over this nation is fulfilled and HIS REIGN enforced.
So come and invite every KINGDOM MINDED Christian within your reach to this mountain of the Lord. Our collective destiny is involved. (1chronicle 12:32)
