SCHOOL OF PRAYER- DAY 4. JESUS ON FASTING

It doesn’t matter what we know or teach, our reference point as believers is Jesus Christ.

To walk in dominion, you must discern the “them” in your life.

The heroes of faith obtained a good report before God because of their faith in God. Yet they could not be perfected without us.

We are a privileged generation..

“And these all, having had witness borne to them through their faith, received not the promise, God having provided some better thing concerning us, that apart from us they should not be made perfect”. Hebrews 11:39-40

From this verse of scripture, we know that, men have been walking by faith from time immemorial. Looking at the heroes of faith in Hebrews 11, there is no line up of New Testament believers. Yet, God reckoned with them.

“Therefore let us also, seeing we are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising shame, and hath sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. For consider him that hath endured such gainsaying of sinners against himself, that ye wax not weary, fainting in your souls”. Heb. 12:1-3.

You have the responsibility to lay aside whatever is slowing you down from serving God and following Him as you ought. It is when you have taken that step; God’s help will come in.

In spite of all the examples of faith in Hebrews 11, we are to look unto Jesus. He is the One we should consider. He alone is our perfect example. This is important because, over time, many have stopped following Jesus and are following personalities. It is in Christ we live, move and have our being. For in Him is the fullness of the Godhead bodily.

“For hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, that ye should follow his steps”. 1 Peter 2:21.

Who are you to look unto?

Who are you to consider?

Who are you to follow in His steps?

The correct answer to these questions is JESUS!

“The former treatise I made, O Theophilus, concerning all that Jesus began both to do and to teach”. Acts 1:1

-It is important to note that,

-Jesus fasted first,

- then taught and

- answered questions on fasting. Jesus taught what He had already done.

At what point did He do? See Matt 3:1-2, 4:2

If Jesus fasted, we should fast.

Here, Jesus said “when” and not “if” because it’s something that we ought to do as believers. (Matthew 6:16-19).

When you go on a fast, it is so that you not only abstain from food but from what you “like”. In a normal fast, you do not break your fast with what you like or enjoy but rather, with an ordinary meal or with a meal God has told you about.

When you are truly fasting, you would know what to break your fast with.

In true fasting, internal adjustments should be going on. Is. 58:4-9.

When you fast, your normal routine is broken. Matt. 9:14-15

What’s going on in our nation cannot go away except by prayer and fasting. Matt. 17:20-21

There are certain dimensions in God we can’t come into until we give ourselves to fasting, worship, praying. Acts 13:1-3. This was how the early church lived.

Every release and commissioning was backed with fasting and praying. Acts 14:23

Parents, as you plan to release your children at different phases, fast and pray.

Glory cannot come until there is a shaken. All we lost is the glory; all we need is the glory. Haggai 2:6

Prayer

- Lord, shake. Do what you have proposed to do.

- Oh God, I’m at your service. I receive grace to serve you acceptably with reverence and godly fear. Heb. 12:25-28

- Lord, help me

Confession

Since we have the same spirit of faith, they believed and spoke, we also believe, therefore we speak. 2 Cor. 4:13.
